Future Makers: Creative Journeys with Music and Tech
1 – Micro:Beat
In this workshop, students learn the basics of block-based coding using the Micro:Bit and discover how technology can be used to produce and control sound. They develop collaborative performance skills through graphic notation and apply musical concepts, including rhythm, melody, and movement. Along the way, they measure environmental data like light levels to influence musical outputs and engage in creative problem-solving through hands-on experimentation.
2 – Designing Digital Instruments
Students use design thinking to create their own playable digital instruments, experimenting with conductivity and everyday materials such as cardboard and foil. They develop teamwork skills through shared instrument creation and build confidence by making and performing original music. The process fosters innovation through practical, hands-on activities and explores how physical interaction can be transformed into digital sound.
3 – Musical Video Game Coding
Students design a world where sound and gameplay collide. Using gamified coding, they link movement, visuals, and sound to create immersive environments with custom sound effects. They compose title music with a built-in synthesiser and staff notation, reinforcing key musical concepts such as pitch, rhythm, and structure. Alongside creativity and autonomy, the workshop promotes classroom collaboration while introducing the basics of UI/UX and creative digital storytelling.
