Dr. Cheong Li

Cheong Li is a music teacher, performer and composer. As an educator, he is passionate about
inspiring children and adults to experience the joy of music through creation and improvisation. He
has taught classes on music technology and conducted workshops on music from various cultures. As
a performer, Cheong plays the ghijek (Uyghur spike fiddle) with the Miras Silk Road Collective in
London and the erhu (Chinese fiddle) with various musicians in Portugal in recent years.
Cheong studied music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and completed his PhD in Music
Composition at the University of York in 2014, under the guidance of Professor Roger Marsh. His
compositions have been featured at festivals such as ISCM 2013 in Vienna and have been performed
by ensembles including the 24, the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.
